Each year, commercialism causes us to immediately jump from trick-or-treating mode to holiday shopping. Black Friday sales seem to begin earlier each year, and because of all of this, we tend to overlook one of the best US holidays. Thanksgiving. Everyone, from consumers to CEOs focus on pushing epic once a year sales or prepare for their shopping journey that begins mere hours after Thanksgiving concludes. We’re a nation fueled by our wants and needs, yet we can’t take a moment to give thanks for what we’ve received. I grew up in a household with the mantra “There’s always someone else out there in a worse situation than your own.” With that in mind, I favor Thanksgiving and it’s intentions because if there was ever a day to be grateful, it would be today. So, take a break from your holiday shopping strategies and consider your past year. What do you have to be grateful for this Thanksgiving?

For starters, I know one community that has a lot to be grateful for. That would be the Bitcoin advocates, those that saw the true potential the decentralized currency possessed and offered their utmost support. The month of November has been a phenomenal month for all Bitcoin investors, as talks within the Senate committee began discussing the virtual currency’s future in addition to hitting an all time high over $700 last week. This week is no different, as the Bitcoin prices have increased to an incredible $950. What Entrepreneurs Are Grateful For
It’s no secret either that our nation runs on small businesses and startups. Entrepreneurs have unlimited possibilities at their fingertips, though their journey to success is anything but simple. Those that do find success have a lot to be grateful for, and if you’re not sure where you should begin, look below to see where you should offer your gratitude.
Scalability and Room to Grow. Many startups begin in a small room unfit for any individual suffering from claustrophobia. Garages and basements are also fitting for startup environments, I’ve even been apart of one who utilized a large dining room as our hub. There will be an “AHA” moment where you realize you’ve done all you can within your confines. If you have gained the revenue to expand into an actual office environment, count yourself lucky and show gratitude towards those who helped you get there.
Second Chances and Pivots. As an entrepreneur, you should know how important correctly pivoting your company can be. Many times it can make or break a startup, especially if the pivot is not executed correctly. Those that do pivot correctly have given themselves a second chance, an additional opportunity to continue on. While you should definitely be grateful for this, don’t let it go in vain. Make sure this approach is well thought out and consider the various outcomes.
Finding Your Muse. Its supising, but inspiration can come to us from the most unlikely places. An idea or thought of innovation can cross your mind, and one of those can turn into a multi-million dollar brand. Many of the greatest leaders, inventors, and entrepreneurs were all hit with unlikely inspirations, but not a day goes by that they don’t think about that moment. This Thanksgiving, be grateful for finding inspiration wherever it may lie.
Your Team. This really should go without saying. The individuals you surround yourself with, those who have been in the trenches with you from the start, they’re part of the reason why your company is where it is today. Don’t be full of yourself and think you reached this point by yourself, show modesty and be grateful for all of the individuals who played a role in your success. Whether you work with them side-by-side or telecommute, a reliable, hard-working creative team is rare. Remember that as you thank them.
The One Who Took a Chance. A lot of startups had life breathed into them because of an individual who finances the idea. Usually called Angel Investors, these individuals (or groups) take a chance and help those that they feel possess a great product or service gain the resources they need for success. Whether it’s an office space, marketing materials, or even a handful of computers, you wouldn’t be where you are today without them. Don’t ever forget that.
What Are You Grateful For?
As you can see, there are a lot of different variables that go into the success of a company or brand. It’s extremely important to recognize all of the different individuals who have helped you reach your goals. Just because our nation skips Thanksgiving in exchange for commercialism doesn’t mean you have to or should. Go against the grain and show your fellow co-workers, employees, friends, and family all that you are grateful for. Let them see that their support has helped you in your journey and you will always remember who helped you achieve success. Whether its just by saying, “Thank you,” offering a gift (or bonus) or even holding your own type of Thanksgiving celebration, all will appreciate the thought.
