It should be no surprise at this point where Carl Icahn currently stands. We’ve been mentioning his actions and displays of social media influence over the last few months. Today is no different as he seems to be the topic of discussion wherever you turn. Time Magazine recently published an interview naming him “the most important investor in America” as they asked him about the current conflict between himself and Apple. Though words like conflict, strong-arm, and battles are being thrown around Icahn and Apple have been pretty docile throughout the entire period. We’ll leave the ultimate interpretation to you, as we provide you with some of the key points of the interview and situation along with an opportunity to read both sides for yourself.

Carl Icahn and Apple Express Their Opinions

Icahn has always been vocal in his opinions, with Apple being no different. This time though he’s developed a strategy, a way to use certain resources to his advantage. He’s already shown his influence on social media as he directly affected Apple share prices with a single tweet. For this round between Carl Icahn and Apple he timed a new tweet perfectly with the release of his Time Magazine interview. Basically, his tweet was saying that he gave notice that he will be submitting a precatory proposal to Apple. This is essentially an unbinding proposal extending opinions more than demands. In addition to the lax proposal, he’s also requested $50 billion to be paid out, which is lower than the original $150 he requested during the summer. He feels Apple should be more of a company and less of a bank with too much money to keep track of on their balance sheets.

Apple on the other hand have also been planning and strategizing. This is like one epic chess game between two of the smartest people in the world, a game to see who ends victorious. In return to Icahn’s latest moves Apple said on a recent earnings call that they were already paying the cash generated in the US back to shareholders. They also have a $100 billion capital return program being implemented to all of those with a stake in Apple.

With the match just merely beginning it should be interesting to see how the rest of this game between Carl Icahn and Apple plays out. Who do you think will wind up victorious?
